KNOWSLEY INDUSTRIAL PARK –“INSIDER MAGAZINE” 16 JULY 2010
Posted on: 16th July 2010Knowsley Industrial Park has the capability to create 1,700 jobs and an additional 950,000 sq ft of commercial space, a review of the park’s potential has concluded.
Property adviser DTZ was commissioned in March to carry out a survey of how the park could be enhanced. The study has set out a long-term vision for the site as a prime business destination in the region.
Central to the implementation of the proposals is the recommendation that Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council works in partnership with the private sector to take forward development proposals for the park. DTZ led the review in partnership with Arup and Taylor Young.
“Knowsley Industrial Park offers significant potential for growth and the recommended improvements will enhance the investment proposition for occupiers and investors alike,” said Lauren Newby, associate director at DTZ.
“The proposals in the review have the potential to create 1,700 jobs and an additional 950,000 sq ft of commercial floorspace through bringing forward opportunity sites for redevelopment.”
Other priority issues identified in the report include plans to encourage development on high-profile routes, strengthening transport links, increasing the on-site facilities and guiding development through a zoned approach to land use.
Councillor Dave Lonergan, Knowsley’s cabinet member for regeneration, economy and skills, said a partnership approach would provide a mechanism for combining public sector assets with private sector funding and blend the skills and expertise of both sectors.
“Maximising sustainable economic growth at the park will be a key principle underpinning the partnership,” he said. “The proposals for the industrial and business park will be closely linked with the regeneration of the adjacent Kirkby town centre. This will transform the area as a whole and provide a major business and employment site for Knowsley and the Liverpool city region.”
